2 Thessalonians 2:1 – 12
We live in a world that is filled with uncertainty, fear, and death. It began to be this way when Adam sinned and will continue until Christ returns and all things are put right. That will not happen in this present climate. He is not going to return to expose the “bad guys” that are presently leading the world toward catastrophic wars, socialism, and ultimately chaos. But many think He is, and they are being deluded. They are expecting a rider on a white horse to come swooping in, expose all the corruption, arrest all the horrible criminals, and to bring justice, law and order, and ultimately, peace. Indeed, a rider on a white horse is coming, but he is not who they will think he is!
2 Thessalonians 2:1 – 12
Do not be deceived by the arrival of a false messiah, the supposed saviour of the world who many believe is about to appear on the scene! He is the antichrist, who exalteth himself above all that is called God. He is not the saviour of mankind, but the destroyer of mankind!
- A White Horse
- We read in Revelation 6:2, “And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.”
- Notice that this rider has a bow and a crown, and is going forth to conquer, yet he has no arrows. He is a conqueror, but he conquers without firing a shot. We’ll get back to him shortly.
- Now turn to Revelation 19:11 – 16: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him wascalled Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
- Notice the contrast! The first rider on a white horse comes conquering without any weapons. He has a bow, but no arrows. He is anonymous.
- The second rider on a white horse comes armed with a sword, and with a mighty army. There is no question about who He is. He has many names, and a title written on His thigh, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
- He comes with the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. He comes not in peace, but to absolutely crush all rebellion. He comes in righteousness to judge and make war.
- A False Messiah
- The world today is in trouble.
- Decisions on how to handle a relatively minor pandemic have shut down the economies of the world.
- The climate is changing, bringing more and more destructive storms, and drought to areas that grow the world’s food.
- The United States, the world’s leading superpower and beacon of freedom, is reeling from chaotic unrest in its major cities.
- The drumbeats of civil war are growing louder and louder.
- Many people in both the U.S. and Canada believe, right now, that a messiah is coming, that he is already in place, and that he is about to appear on the scene as all the corruption and gross immorality is about to be crushed.
- Many still believe that that man is Donald Trump. But they will readily accept another if he is able to put things right.
- That man is coming. He is a false messiah. Unfortunately, many who identify as Christians are going to be deceived by him.
III. A Man of Peace
- This man will arrive on the scene bringing peace.
- The world, especially the western world, Christian so called, is absolutely ripe for this delusion.
- Many, right now, Christian by identification, believe there is a terrifying plot going on, a sinister plot where there are tunnels under all the major cities in Canada and the U.S., that most of the political leaders and Hollywood elite are all pedophiles who have been drinking the blood of horribly abused and terrified children. They are being told that all the Hollywood stars are actually dead, that the sitting president of the United States is not really the president, that the Canadian Prime Minister is dead, and more.
- Above all, they believe that a great leader, who many believe is Donald Trump, is about to swoop in with the military and take over. All the evil people will be rounded up in one massive, carefully executed strategy, and peace will then come as Christianity begins to rule the world.
- Many, right now, Christian by identification, believe there is a terrifying plot going on, a sinister plot where there are tunnels under all the major cities in Canada and the U.S., that most of the political leaders and Hollywood elite are all pedophiles who have been drinking the blood of horribly abused and terrified children. They are being told that all the Hollywood stars are actually dead, that the sitting president of the United States is not really the president, that the Canadian Prime Minister is dead, and more.
- The world, especially the western world, Christian so called, is absolutely ripe for this delusion.
- God’s Word on it
- What does the Bible have to say about this so-called “man of peace?” “And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” Daniel 8:25
- This is the man that the world is ready for! The delusion is already happening. A vast number of people are convinced that God is about to send someone to fix everything.
- There are innumerable things wrong with this world. The corruption of sin has had a devastating effect on it. But the world does not see it that way. Most people consider themselves to be pretty good, even “good Christians.”
- So, the deceiver has created a shadowy world of loathsome criminals doing things even those who have not put their faith in Jesus Christ find awful and horrendously immoral, in need of an immediate solution.
- This is the man that the world is ready for! The delusion is already happening. A vast number of people are convinced that God is about to send someone to fix everything.
- A comparatively mild pandemic has spread around the world. But the media bombards the population daily with grim statistics and dire predictions.
- Viral videos are popping up all over the web, and prophets of doom have vast following of true believers who are convinced that “the vaccine” is part of a horrible conspiracy to bring everyone under control and to kill anyone who doesn’t conform.
- Furthermore, the seeds of war are even now sprouting as the world heads towards what has always been inevitable, another great war that could be worse than anything in the history of the world.
- In short, the world is a very scary place. But many have now been convinced that God is about to cause a saviour to appear on the scene, a man who will arrest and destroy all the criminals, wipe out the “deep state,” and bring the world into a new era of safety and prosperity.
- But this is NOT what the Bible says and is NOT what is about to happen.
- The Coming White Horse
- This coming white horse, this first white horse on the world scene, is carrying a messiah, but it is a false messiah, the Antichrist. He is going to come when people are crying for someone to fix everything, to save them. He will be embraced by the world as a saviour, by Israel as their long-awaited Messiah, and by many who consider themselves Christians as Christ, Himself. He will be anything but. He is a deceiver, empowered by the devil, and evil through and through. He hates God and he hates mankind. Do not be fooled. Read your Bible, pray, and believe God.
Conclusion
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”
Beware of deceivers! Do not believe anything you hear simply because someone says so, even someone you trust, but look for the source; find the proof! Beware and do not be deceived by anyone who claims to have a word or a prophecy from God. Test everything against the Word of God. “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.” Romans 3:4
