At a 6 pm special service, Pastor Dave Cottrell was ordained. Officiating was Pastor Emeritus Steve Swires, who made the trip up from his new home in Ft. Defiance, AZ for the meeting, and on the ordination committee were Bro. Gary Lester, missionary to students in the greater Vancouver area out of Anchor Baptist Church in Burnaby, BC; Bro. Ben Turner, pastor of Anchor Baptist Church in Burnaby, BC; and Bro. Bev Ward, pastor of Grace Christian Fellowship, in Davis Bay, BC.

Charlie Cottrell returned to Sunshine Community Baptist Church with his family in answer to God’s call to serve as our Youth Pastor. He will also be serving as Assistant Pastor. Charlie just graduated from Heartland Baptist Bible College in OKC.

Pastor Steve offered his resignation as senior pastor to do what God has called him to do as a traveling evangelist. The membership voted to accept his resignation, but are very pleased that he is Pastor Emeritus of our church, and he and Liz will remain as members.
The membership also voted at this time to accept Pastor Dave Cottrell as senior pastor.
Summer 2008
Pastor Steve is going into full time ministry as a traveling evangelist. Sunshine Community Baptist Church will still be Pastor Steve and Liz’s home church. They will be working from a base in the lower mainland, and will be worshiping with us as God provides opportunity. Pastor Steve and Liz are asking for our continuing prayers for them for speaking engagements and for God’s continued leading and provision.

It is with great joy that we celebrated the marriage of Ken Nelson and Rebecca Cottrell. Ken has also recently become a brand new child of God, making this a most wonderful and precious celebration for all.
